Feng Shui Tips for A Bathroom in the Center of Your Home

5 tips to alleviate the bad feng shui of a bathroom in the center of the home

The center of the house is considered the heart of the home in feng shui, it is a very important area that needs to feel open, beautiful, and happy. Known as the yin-yang vortex, the center of your home acts much like the human heart in many ways, and all the other guas (or feng shui bagua areas) depend on the heart to receive and maintain their quality of energy. For good feng shui in your whole home — and in your life — do your best to keep the center of your home open, joyful, and full of light and beauty.

What can you do, though, if you have a bathroom in the center of your home? Well, honestly this is really bad feng shui, especially if this bathroom is the only bathroom in your home. If this is the second bathroom or a guest bathroom, the energetic load on the house is lighter and its potentially negative feng shui effects are lessened.

Know that a bathroom in the center of the house is bad feng shui and you will be wise to avoid it when you are looking to buy (or rent) a new home. What if you already live in a home that has a bathroom in the center and cannot plan any renovations to address this issue? Can you still improve the feng shui of your home? Yes, you can. Here are some basic feng shui tips to improve the energy of a bathroom in the center of the home.

Feng Shui Bathroom Tip #1.

Keep your bathroom clean and clutter-free. This is a must, and the very first step if you want to alleviate the negative energy of a bathroom in the center of a home (or any other bagua area of your home, really.) A good organizational system will help create (and keep) a sense of order in your bathroom. Look for various bathroom storage solutions from retailers such as Ikea, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Crate and Barrel or a multitude of other home decor stores. Do not skip this step as it is essential in order to keep the energy of your bathroom clean and orderly. Everything in your bathroom (especially in a home center bathroom) has to have its own place and purpose of being there, everything has to be treated with respect and care.

Feng Shui Bathroom Tip #2.

Bring a sense of beauty to your bathroom. This can be any image or decor element that actually makes your heart smile. What image makes your heart happy? Find a way to bring it into this bathroom. Remember, the quality of energy in the center of your home is the quality of energy that all other bagua areas of your home depend on and will eventually express.

Feng Shui Bathroom Tip #3.

Decorate your bathroom with decor items that express the Fire and Earth feng shui elements, which are the ideal elements for the center/the heart of the home. Learn more about decorating with specific feng shui elements as this can create powerful changes in a very subtle way. The Earth element is especially important in this bathroom as it will absorb the excess Water element predominant in the bathrooms.

To bring Fire and Earth elements, you can use candles, crystals, images of fiery energy or warm earthy landscapes, to name just a few items. Know that each color and shape is an expression of a specific feng shui element, so use the power of good feng shui decorating wisely.

Feng Shui Bathroom Tip #4.

Be mindful of the quality of light in your bathroom. If you have no window in your bathroom (and you probably don’t in a bathroom that is located in the center of the home), create at least two (or more) levels of lighting by using a dimmer switch, candles, or bringing different light fixtures. The goal here is to avoid having a flat quality of light that creates static, low energy. Since our health is deeply (even though subtly) dependant on the quality of light our body receives, be mindful and do your best with this step.

Feng Shui Bathroom Tip #5.

Take good care of your bathroom’s air quality. The air-purifying good feng shui plants (if you have good light levels in your bathroom), or a high quality essential oils aromatherapy diffuser will help improve air quality and spread good energy. I have to be clear in stating that a bathroom in the center of your home will always be a challenge and you have to keep a constant eye on the quality of its energy. It takes constant work and attention to keep its energy neutral. No matter how well you applied feng shui to all other areas of your home, if you leave your center bathroom with no feng shui attention, most of your other efforts will be in vain, energetically speaking.

Focus on creating beauty and good feng shui energy anywhere in your home, and start by paying attention to all areas and rooms that are “hurting”. A bathroom in the center of the home is an area that hurts a home the most, it is a very ignorant way to design a home.
